What’s Different About GPS’s Online Degree Programs?

The School of Graduate & Professional Studies emerged over 25 years ago as a solution to the problems working adults across the country encounter when pursuing an advanced degree. MVNU set up the Executive Center for Lifelong Learning (EXCELL) in 1993 to offer adult education classes based on the skills and degrees workplaces wanted in job candidates. Into the 2000s, we expanded not just the program offerings to suit market demands but the formats they were available in.

Today, our adult education division—named Graduate & Professional Studies (GPS) in 2010—offers a range of online-only degrees across business, education, ministry, and nursing disciplines specifically geared toward the learner who has to balance their aspirations with life’s other obligations. As a result, online classes are offered in accelerated formats, and all tuition is based on a per-credit, course-by-course structure, allowing you to work toward your goal on your own timeframe.

At the same time, online learning doesn’t compromise the values and characteristics for which MVNU is known. Our faith-based cohort model shapes the structure and atmosphere for all online programs. Students, in the process, gain an ethical mindset they can take into the workplace and build strong connections with fellow students and their professors. Woven into this, course content is drawn up with input from industry leaders, ensuring the skills you acquire can be applied in the workplace—even in your current full-time job.

Through this approach, MVNU’s online degrees for working adults have won a number of accolades over the years. Among the more recent distinctions, Affordable Colleges Online named GPS the Best Online College in Ohio in 2018 and recognized the program for Online Learning Excellence in 2017, basing its decision on financial aid, student-to-teacher ratio, graduation rate, and regional accreditation.
